Choosing the Product

Seizing the opportunity in ecofriendly product packaging that someone may considerable negligible.

The Product- COTTON SWAB

Cotton swab is a Common household product used for various purposes such a cleaning , cosmetic application , first aid , crafts etc.

According to surveys 1.5 million single use plastic cotton swabs are produced every day and most of these end up in the water bodies and oceans , causing potential threat to marine life.

Each day in Australia, 250 marine animals and more than 2,700 seabirds choke to death on the plastic polluting our oceans.

It is basically a stick made out of plastic , paper or bamboo and has two cotton balls at the end.

Bamboo and paper swabs are ecofriendly alternatives available in the market. But many still prefer and buy plastic ones due to cost and ease of availability , lack of awareness.

Cotton swab comes in different material ,sizes and brands. A study of some of the different brands that offer cotton swabs were done to select a suitable and relevant brand for packaging design.

The brand products , brand values , current packaging , Mission and Vision , pros and cons were studied for a brand that could do with a packaging revamp.

The Bamboo Bae was chosen among the other brands due to the cost and the brand ethos that aligned with providing ecofriendly choices.

There was an evident need to increase visibility of such ecofriendly options and the packaging could definitely play a role in influencing customer choices towards a more sustainable and environment friendly lifestyle.

Bamboo bae brand study insight -

The packaging is too humble and similar to other packaging
It initially strikes to be low cost or quality product from the packaging.
There requires a balance between humble and overkill to attract customer to ecofriendly products in ecofriendly packaging.

Compared to other Eco friendly brands packaging :

Minimal colors and print is a common feature in ecofriendly packaging.
Similar box template for same product packaging implies less distinguishability.
Does not stand out in a shelf or catch customer attention to the product and the cause its promoting.

INSPIRATION BOARD

Since the brand ethos is aiming to reduce plastic pollution through their products , the packaging form and graphics could also be dedicated to the cause to attract customers and distinguish product in the market.

Hence the packaging could allow customers to peak into the inspiring cause the brand is aiming for , and nudge the customers into using bamboo cotton swabs instead of plastic ones that cause pollution.
